MOTORCYCLE PRO GUIDE 1 - BECOMING A HIGH PERFORMANCE RIDER

Let’s start with the great news.

Any rider can become a great rider.

At Rapid, we believe any rider can be a great rider if they go about it the right way. But if they don’t, no amount of experience or practice will get them there. There are three simple steps to advance your riding ability….

1. Believe

Believing you can become a great motorbike rider is the first step to becoming one. It is too easy to fall into the trap of thinking some riders have a natural gift that we do not possess. The reality is that motorcycle riding skills are not innate they are learnt. We can all develop them if we know how.

2. Understand

The second step to success is understanding the fundamental skills required to ride at the highest level and breaking them down into their component parts so that we can look at them each, separately. When we do this, we start to understand what is going well with our riding and what is not. And with that knowledge, we can get on the road to mastery.

3. Focused Practice

The third step to mastery, once we understand how the skills deconstruct, is to focus our practice onto specific development areas. Rather than simply riding more miles, focus some of your time on each ride on the skills we need to develop - and this is where the transformation begins.

Every great rider knows the importance of mastering the fundamentals.

Modern, high performance bikes are high-octane, hard-core machines, offering the rider an indescribable sense of exhilaration, adventure and freedom. But, to come anywhere close to experiencing their potential, riders must develop their skills to a very high level. Mastering the fundamentals, so that they are a natural and intuitive part of your ride, is key to unleashing your potential.

What are the fundamentals of performance riding?

Performance riding is in our DNA and our team of pro-coaches have vast experience riding at high speeds in the most challenging conditions. Our real world experience of what it takes to handle a modern, high performance machine on road and track, gives us a unique insight into the three skills areas a rider needs to master if they want to achieve expert status:

1. A highly tuned ability to read the road

2. Intuitive, dynamic planning

3. Precision machine control

Mastering these three, interdependent areas will lead to the fluid, effortless, intuitive riding style which is the hallmark of excellence.

Over the next blog posts we’ll look at each of these areas in more detail.
