MEET THE COACHES- GILES

Giles abandoned a very different career path to instead make a career out of riding motorcycles, first as a dispatch rider before eventually becoming an advanced police motorcyclist and finally a Rapid pro coach.

My poor music teacher of a mother: I am such a disappointment to her. I nearly followed her into the same industry but having trained as a classic singer I dropped out of music school in the 80s to become a dispatch rider in the city. After dispatching I became a DSA bike instructor, and was a chief instructor for a number of years before I eventually joined the police force with my eyes set on becoming a police motorcyclist.

That career took me from response to firearms, traffic, and finally the small and exclusive bike team, where I spent 15 years doing marked, unmarked, off-road, VIP escort, and crime team riding. I have some stories I could tell…

But outside of work my passion for motorcycling continued and I spent many years riding off road, mostly green laning but also the odd enduro, and also did the odd track day. But my main passion has always been good, quality road riding.

In 2010 I joined Rapid and in the last 11 years that passion has never waned, and the greatest reward and satisfaction still comes from watching a client develop and improve as a rider, and watching their confidence and ability grow.
